While traveling in India in 1972, Chetan Parkyn, author of the enclosed review copy of Human Design: Discover the Person You Were Born To Be (New World Library, September 16, 2010), was told by a psychic that he should “get ready” to introduce thousands of people all over the world to a system that would greatly improve lives. As a 29-year-old mechanical engineer at the time, he didn’t have a clue what the psychic was talking about, but over the years would come to realize the profound truth that was conveyed in that reading.

Within a week of the psychic’s prediction, Chetan was led through a series of “coincidences” to start practicing palm reading. Over the next 15 years, he would become well versed in a number of different modalities like face reading, Tarot cards, astrology, the I Ching, and more. Then in 1993, Chetan’s whole life changed when he heard about a teacher named Ra Uru Hu who was organizing classes to introduce a new system in the United States called Human Design.

Chetan contacted Ra and studied closely with him in order to learn to read Human Design life charts. Today, Chetan is the world's most successful proponent of Human Design having given over two thousand readings in the last fifteen years. The origins of the Human Design system are just as fascinating as the way it became a part of Chetan’s life. Ra Uru Hu, a Canadian formerly known as Alan Krakower, was a cynical man who had gone through a series of life disappointments that led him to a traveling adventure. It was while he was staying on the island of Ibiza that he felt what he described as an internal explosion right before hearing a voice that insisted that he get to work.

Call it channeling. Call it inspiration. Call it what you will. But Ra Uru Hu started writing and sketching and continued for eight days and nights. From those writings, the revolutionary system that reveals personality blueprints of who we were born to be — the system Chetan describes in Human Design — was born.

The Human Design system is astrology’s natural successor. It draws from four ancient wisdom traditions — astrology, the chakra system, the I Ching, and the Kabbalah. The system takes the torch from the hand of astrology and carries it to the next level, becoming both an accurate guide for life and a self-assessment device. “Human Design is ripe for these changing times, encouraging us to meet ourselves head on and be responsible for who we are,” says Chetan.
